Exhibition Geo Milev and the Bulgarian Modernism

For the ninth consecutive time IMPRESSIA is the place where artists meet their connoisseurs and businessmen of vision who invest in art. Fair halls 8 and 10 have been transformed into huge exhibition halls.
The exhibition program includes presentations of individual authors and galleries, applied artists, goods and services connected with art, cultural and historical heritage, publishing houses and entertainment industry. As is the tradition, young talents from art schools take part too. Galleries and businesses may present their own activity or an individual author.
IMPRESSIA 2005 participants are 151. (121 in 2004). Individual authors are 54 and applied artists are 28. The art galleries are 12, and they present 44 masters of the fine arts. The National Academy of Arts Sofia also participates, as well as 10 secondary schools of art etc.
The only Fair Poster Competition in the world will be held for the ninth time and is becoming more and more popular. Since 2003 the Global Association of Exhibition Industry UFI is a co-organizer. There is a total of 174 posters of 40 exhibition organizations from all over the world, members of the UFI. Participants are divided into 2 categories exhibition event poster and generic promotion poster. The two awarded posters will be given original statuettes by the sculptor Yanko Nenov.


The International Fair Poster Competition has been organized by the International Fair Plovdiv since 1997 within the Impressia Art Fair, and since 2003 the event has been held under the auspice of UFI the Global Association of Exhibition Industry. The competition is unique and shows the art of the contemporary fair poster. The competing posters are by exhibition organizers members of the UFI. Participation is free of charge with each participant having the right to present posters from different fairs and exhibitions which have not until then competed, regardless whether they are themselves members of the UFI.
This year the jury includes the executive director of UFI, Mr. Vincent Gerard, Mrs. Lili Eigl communications manager for UFI, Mr. Boguslaw Zalewski chairman of the UFI Associations Committee and executive director of the Poznan Fair, Prof. Bozhidar Yonov president of the Academy of Arts in Sofia and poster-artist, Mr. Alexander Radoslavov chairman of the graphic design unit with the Bulgarian Artists Union and executive director of the Iza rt copyright agency, Mr. Vassil Nikolov poster-artist, Mrs. Maria Todorova head of Corporate Communications, International Fair Plovdiv.
The poster evaluation criteria are originality of expressive device, format and means of presentation of the purpose topic; exhaustiveness and originality of means of presentation of the exhibitions technical parameters dates and venues.
The winners of the grand prize are awarded a statuette byYanko Nenov and a certificate, and the nominees an honorary certificate. Certificates are awarded to both the artists and the advertising agencies that have produced the nominated and awarded posters. The Grand Prize is awarded at the UFI annual congress, which will be held in Moscow this year.
All competing posters will be displayed during the Impressia art fair. Along with Impressia there is also an exhibition of printing communications Printcom and both the exhibitors and the visitors of the two exhibitions advertising agencies, printing houses, computer specialists, artists, students, poster-makers, and journalists have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the newest trends in fair poster development. The posters of the International Fair in Plovdiv do not participate in the competition.
All the nominated and awarded posters are published on the Internet site of the International Fair Plovdiv and UFI.

This year sees record number of competing posters 174. There are 40 exhibition organizations from 22 countries in Europe, Asia, South and North America.
